Juniors ( ages 5-15 years)

Fridays 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

This Friday class is the main primary & junior session and is ideal for children of all ages and abilities. The sessions are coached by Head Coach, Carla Jones (1st Dan) and students learn how to fall, throw and hold an opponent on the ground in a fun, yet disciplined way. Children have the opportunity to achieve grade promotions or compete in competitions when they feel ready and the emphasis is on taking part and improving their own individual judo skills.

Recently, the junior members have been very successful in competitions bringing home numerous medals, but more importantly, representing the club locally and nationally.

Saturdays 12:15 pm - 1:45 pm

The Saturday class is coached by Paul Butler (1st Dan) and is primarily a feeder class for the Friday night session. The class is designed for young novice students to become competent in falling and become familiar with contact situations. Once the child can perform basic throws and breakfalls safely, then they can be moved into the Friday class in order to develop their judo techniques.

Paul Butler has many years experience as both a judo coach and a swimming instructor so is able to encourage even the most timid children to have a go. He has a calm and confidant approach and is able to bring out the best in every student.
